You must use the Special Permit package corresponding to the class of hazardous material authorized by the Special Permit. The manufacturer's instructions for assembly must be followed completely. This includes using only components that are specifically designed as part of the Special Permit packaging system.
The package must be stamped by the manufacturer with "DOT - SP" followed by the Special Permit number on the side of the carton. The "DOT - SP" number must also appear on the UPS Shipping Paper and the Shipper's Certification indicating that the Special Permit applies to this specific shipment of hazardous material.
Finally, UPS requires that a copy of the written DOT Special Permit be placed on the package in a re-sealable pouch.
If "yes" appears in the "Ground Shipments - DOT Special Permit or 173.13" or the "Air Shipments - DOT Special Permit or 173.13" columns the package must conform to the applicable DOT Special Permit or 173.13.

The table below lists the known packaging that can be used to package specific hazardous materials that UPS requires to be in DOT Special Permit packaging.
You may find other acceptable Special Permit packages offered by your hazardous materials packaging professional. Be sure that the packaging you purchase are
approved by the DOT and are covered under a current Special Permit.
